Chair of Governors

Colin Taylor

I am Colin Taylor and I am currently the Chair of Governors.  I have been married to Frances for over forty years; and we have four grown up children and nine grandchildren. We moved to the parish in March 2016 and I joined the governing body later that year.

I worked as a manager in the IT department of a major bank for nearly 40 years until I retired at the end of 2016.

I enjoy watching sport and follows the fortunes (or otherwise) of Blackburn Rovers. I enjoy jogging and have completed both the London Marathon and the Great North Run, raising money for a number of charities including Bluebell Wood Children’s hospice and homeless charities Shelter and Shiloh.

Vice Chair / Parent Governor

Michael Jones

My name is Michael Jones, I’ve lived in South Yorkshire since 2008 and during that time I have had various roles in educational settings across the region ranging from TA, learning mentor, alternative provision provider to Secondary school teacher.

My wife and I joined the parish in 2012 and shortly afterwards our eldest daughter was born. Since then she has been joined by two more sisters and our family have been settled here ever since.

As a member of the parish you may see me reading at church on a Sunday. Other than family, work and church my remaining spare time can be found out and South Yorkshire in the beautiful local scenery.

I have worked for many years in the NHS, across the country, as a children’s nurse and in later years as nurse manager.

I have lived in Rotherham since 1996 and am married with one grown child. My link to St Mary's school came as an active member of the parish, acting as safeguarding rep for some years.

I  enjoy walking, reading, and pottering in my garden.

Foundation Governor

Peter Short

I attended St Bedes school in 1953 and moved to St Bernard’s when I was 12. I was born in Rotherham and have lived here all my 71 years. I have been a governor at Maltby school and also at Sitwell school when my children were there.

I was chairman of the first School PTA and played an active part in the school for some years. 4 years ago I was elected to RMBC as a Councillor for Sitwell Ward and still sit on several committees.

I hope to bring my limited life skills to my role at St Mary’s and look forward to working with staff and governors to ensure an excellent happy school for the children.
