Today we have been looking at the properties of different materials. We used a freely bag to describe objects to the rest of the class using words like soft, hard, bumpy, smooth and many more. There was lots of activities around the classroom that helped us to think about the properties of materials.

The children enjoyed taking part in parachute games this morning.


Sports Week

Alongside the rest of the school, Foundation had a very enjoyable and active week. We were lucky to have many sports professionals to lead different activities, from football skill training, Taekwondo, skipping and keep fit to motivational music. The children were exhausted  at the end of the week and all teachers will sleep  throughout the weekend!


Sea creature paintings

The children painted a sea creature of their choice at the painting easel. They had a photograph to copy. They chose the appropriate colours and paintbrushes to create the look that they wanted.


Father’s Day

In Foundation we showed our dads and grandads we loved them by making rocket cards and T Shirt biscuits.


Friendship

We introduced our new R.E. topic about Friendship. We discussed the attributes of a good friend such as, kindness, caring, loving, a good listener and ways to mend a broken friendship. Saying sorry and forgiving was demonstrated through role play. We finished the session by making friendship bracelets and paper chain friends.


Castle Ball

Today children in Foundation had their very own Castle Ball to finish our topic on Castles. The children were invited to dress up for the event. They loved dancing to the medieval music and eating some yummy treats afterwards.


Castles

Foundation worked independently to create a spectacular 3D castle, this supported their topic work.


Dragon Biscuits

This week Foundation have been learning about dragons. They really enjoyed baking dragon biscuits this morning with Mrs Dodson.


Dragon Hunt

The children watched a breaking news clip about a dragon on the loose at another school. The children then went outside to look for clues and were very excited to tell me what they had found. We then thought of ways to capture the dragon. This led to lots of independent writing, drawing and painting this afternoon.


Materials

This morning the children went on a materials hunt around the school. They were asked to identify different materials and then speak about how they knew. The children had lots of fun!


Collective Worship

Last Friday the children took part in collective worship. They listened to the Bible story where Jesus appears to his friends while they are fishing. We spoke about how we feel when we see someone who we haven’t seen for ages, the children commented this makes them feel happy and excited. The children then offered their own prayer intentions about people that make them happy. We finished the session by saying the Our Father together and singing a song.


Gospel Assembly

Foundation delivered a beautiful Gospel Assembly around the theme of, ‘I know how to help others when they are in trouble.’ Families came to support their children in their involvement in this.


Castle Topic

This term the children will be learning all about Castles. They have really enjoyed playing in our castle roleplay area in class. 


Stations of the Cross

The children walked the stations of the cross that had been placed in different outdoor locations round the school and church. The children acted out each station and had a small time for reflection each time.


Dress up as a Scientist

To end our Science week in school, the children came to school dressed up as different people who work with Science. 


RE - Palm Sunday

The children roleplayed the story of Palm Sunday and were then given opportunities to write about the story on some Palm leaves.


Whirlow Hall Farm

The children really enjoyed our visit to Whirlow Hall Farm. They visited all the animals and were given opportunities to stroke some of the animals like the lamb and the hen. They then did a workshop where they learnt the story of the Little Red Hen. They acted out each part of the story; finding the seeds and then actually planting them, cutting down the wheat and then grinding their own flour. The children were then able to try the bread. We had a wonderful day!


Growing

This morning the children learnt all about how plants grow. They then planted their own seeds and chose to do some independent writing about how seeds grow.


Mothers Day

We love our mums and nans, we showed this in Foundation by making them cards and delicious heart biscuits for Mother’s Day.


Chicks

This morning, Foundation, had a workshop all about chicks and hens. The children were given opportunities to hold and feed the hens and were taught how to care for the eggs that will be left in class. The children are really looking forward to watching the chicks hatch.


Baking

The children really enjoyed making pig biscuits this morning. This linked with this weeks topic about Farms.


RE

This morning’s RE lesson was all about growing. We read “Once there were Giants” and spoke about different things that grow. We then walked around the school grounds and looked for things that were growing.


Book Week

During Book Week every child in school was involved in lots of exciting activities from dressing up as a book character, producing a story in a bottle, to reading and drawing competition.  In Foundation we had fun with our families to create book character potatoes. Can you spot Little Red Riding Hood?


RE lesson

In our RE lesson this week we looked at the different people who make our masses such a wonderful gathering and celebration. We role played different people involved, welcomers, altar servers, musicians, flower arrangers, readers, Eucharistic ministers, collectors, the congregation and of course the priest! We discussed that the special meal at the centre of the mass is the Eucharist.


Decorator Shop

The children have really enjoyed the new roleplay area in Foundation this week. They have made their own wallpaper and have roleplayed decorating the classroom, as well as buying and selling items in the shop.


RE lesson

Foundation explored activities that they like to do together and alone as part of this weeks RE lesson. We experimented playing with the musical instruments and then drew pictures of our favourite activities that we like to do with friends and family. The new topic is all about “gathering” children learnt what this word means.


Post Office Visit

The children have written their very own letters to Peter Penguin. We took the letters to the Post Office, paid for the stamps and posted our letters.


Winter Wonderland

The children have really enjoyed learning about Winter and the Arctic this week. They enjoyed playing with the 'icebergs' in the water tray and designing their own Polar Bear masks. They have also done some fantastic writing! Well done!


Fun Maths

This week we are learning to add two groups of objects. The children loved using Lola the Ladybird to help them.


Collective Worship

During Collective Worship, the Foundation children reflected on the many gifts they received over Christmas and the special time they had with their families, they gave thanks to God through their own prayers. Through discussion they identified that Jesus didn't receive any presents for His birthday. They passed a parcel around the circle and spoke about the gifts they would like to give Him, such as being kind to each other, saying prayers, making good choices, sharing with each other etc. 


Christmas Baking!

The children had lots of fun today doing some festive baking with Mrs Horan and Mrs Dodson! Merry Christmas everyone!


Totley Hall Farm

On Monday, Foundation visited Totley Hall Farm. The children dressed up as character's from the Nativity story and then acted the story out. Afterwards the children were given opportunities to hold a lamb and to stroke the donkey. Thank you to all the parents who came along to watch! It was a fantastic day out!


Advent wreaths

The children in Foundation learnt all about waiting and what the Advent wreath means. They then made a class Advent wreath and were given opportunities to make their own independent Advent wreaths.


Alien Invasion

The aliens came to visit our classroom over the weekend and left us some surprises in our classroom. This generated some excellent language and role play opportunities. The children loved exploring the alien slime left in the water tray. We have also produced some beautiful independent writing and drawings of aliens.


Getting ready for Remembrance Day

The children in Foundation learnt all about Remembrance Day and why it is important to wear a poppy. The children were then given opportunities to collage their own poppies ready to wear to our remembrance concert on Friday.
