Year 1 Class Information

Homework
Homework will be set on a Friday and will usually consist of spelling words which will be tested the following Friday to check application of phonics sounds.
Children are expected to read at least 3 times a week at home to support their phonics learning in school.
PE
PE will be on a Thursday afternoon. Please make sure they have indoor and outdoor kit in school at all times.
Main topic:
We will be learning to:
- Sequence events in chronological order to create a timeline.
- Use a range of materials to create dinosaur crafts.
- Learn about dinosaurs from the Jurassic, Triassic and Cretaceous periods.
- Create a fact file on a chosen dinosaur.
English
Our literacy topics are:
- Write lists, labels and captions.
- Use the correct punctuation including full stops, capital letters and finger spaces.
- Read words including set 2 Read Write Inc sounds.
Maths
Our numeracy topics are:
- Count, read and write numbers to 10.
- Learn number facts to 10.
- Practice simple addition and subtraction.
- Learn properties of 2d and 3d shapes.
RE
Our RE topics are:
- Families.
- Belonging.
- Waiting.
Science
Our science topics are:
- About germs and why washing our hands and brushing our teeth is important.
- To investigate materials, and understand why different materials have certain purposes.
- To explore topics scientifically.
